Info about Shout Out Louds
Shout Out Louds is all about simplicity. From the first tentative efforts in the rehearsal room to the release of the 100° EP, Shout Out Louds have always been true to this artistic credo. Neither arrangements nor melodies is allowed to be too complicated.
It´s also the soundtrack to the state of being in love, a state that harbours a high degree of anxiety. There is a touch of desperation in Adam's vocals deriving from the feeling that things are too good, that happiness will end or that emotions are about to run cold. The most striking undercurrent in Shout Out Louds music is the fear of discovering that one has ceased to love.
Founded in Stockholm autumn 2001, Shout Out Louds consists of five old friends. Adam was about to study art and design in London after having played in different bands. He was convinced that from now on music should not be such a big part of his life anymore. However, when his friend Ted asked Adam to teach him to play bass, Adam decided to give music one more try. This turned out to be a struck of genius. Because pretty soon it was apparent that Adam and Ted corresponded musically as well as they did on the level of friendship. Having decided to start a band, the friends rang Carl whom Adam had played with before and picked him up as guitarist. Supported by a crappy, old drum machine and united by a fascination for american lo-fi acts such as Elf Power, Dinosaur Jr., Bright Eyes and Grandaddy and British bands like The Cure and Stone Roses, Carl, Adam and Ted began to rehearse intensively. It took some time, though, for all pieces to fall into place. Other friends felt an urge to join the band, like Eric, who after a few rehearsals became Shout Out Louds permanent drummer. The band was finally completed when Bebban, equipped with a Moog synthesizer, enrolled as keyboard player during summer 2002.
Shout Out Louds debut gig took place in February 2002 at a small club in Stockholm. Armed with only three songs and inspired by the pure joy of playing, the band took an unprepared audience by storm. After that moment the buzz around Shout Out Louds has grown intensively. The band's contribution to the Swedish music magazine SONIC's cd-sampler no. 9 (November issue 2002), a demo version of Very Loud from the EP, became the most asked for song by readers in the history of the magazine.
The 100° EP was recorded in December 2002 and produced by Ronald Bood who, among other things, also has produced albums for Swedish bands Mando Diao and The Plan. Musically 100° EP, comprises euforic rock like in 100° and Hurry Up Let´s Go as well as a more dreamy, Velvet Underground-like song, Go Sadness. Every song is tightly bound together by an impressively secure sense for melodies.
100° EP is a premonition of the debut album that Shout Out Louds have started to record for Bud Fox Recordings.
